New York here we come!!

Danny and I are heading to Rochester, NY tomorrow for the beginning of our Christmas vacation!! We will be spending a few days with his parents in Rochester, and then on Christmas Eve will head to Ohio to spending a few days with his extended family. My parents will join us in Rochester on the 23rd!! I am so excited and can't wait to get there!! They have lots of white stuff in the ground that I am dying to play with :)! So today is full of shopping, packing, and a basketball game! I don't think we ever have a complete day without something basketball but we love it! I will try to post pictures of our the Christmas fun when we return!

FINALS, SNOW, & BASKETBALL

Finals:
Due to Ike all several of my tests and presentation were rescheduled for later, which meant at the same time as all my others...so, this week I had 3 tests on Monday, a presentation on Tuesday, and 1 test on Wednesday! I made it through them all...but I am still waiting on one grade. So far I have passed 3 out 4 which is great because it was a rough week. My next rotation will be in Texas City (thank goodness I don't have to drive very far) and will be with an internal medicine doctor. But for now....IT IS CHRISTMAS BREAK!!!

Snow:
It snowed in Texas City!! I have been waiting since August to go to New York this Christmas so that I could build a snow man! Well, Danny and I got to build a snow man early! We made a snow man that was almost 7 feet tall!!!! It was so much fun! We used carrots for the nose, choc. chips for the eyes, and beef jerky strips for the mouth! It was awesome!! We took pictures so I will post those soon! This was our dogs first experience in the snow and they had a blast! Stitch traced flying snow ball and pounced around while Leo slowly explored this new cold white stuff. They both loved eating it! We got some cute pictures of them as well! So, now that I got a snow appetizer, I will make it until we get to New York!

Basketball:
Danny's team has been on hold for a while because of cancelled game etc. The Varsity team has played very well though. They went 3-2 in their tournament which is awesome!! They only won 3 games in all 3 tournaments combined last year, so they are obviously improved. They took home third place! Tomorrow starts the JV's team first tournament! I will keep you posted on how Danny's guys do!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our family and friends! Danny and I have alot to be thankful for. We have wonderful families, a house of our own, jobs (or school in my case), money to put food on the table, and each other! God continues to bless us beyond our wildest dreams.
This morning we ran the Sugar Land Turkey Trot which is a five mile race. I don't think I have run 5 miles since I was a junior in college but I finished! None of the family had record breaking finishes but it was alot of fun...and made us very hungry! We had Thanksgivng dinner at the McVey's which is basically extended family. The food was delicious and the time of fellowship was great! Again,we are so thankful for our many blessing!
Basketball update. Danny had a game on Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
Monday vs CE King - JV lost, Varsity got a big win at teh end of the game!!
Tuesday vs Crosby - JV WON!! Varsity lost by 6!

Basketball Season is in the air!

Danny has officially started basketball season. That means leaving the house by 5:15am and getting home at the earliest by 7pm (which is a good night). His JV team is looking decent, they need to get the dust off their shoes but I think they will be okay in a few weeks! I am his assistant coach (unofficially of course)! That's the only way I get my basaketball fill in:) I pretty much keep stats and then give him a look when he needs to take someone out :) Christmas is fast approaching but that means getting through the remainder of my ER rotation followed by 4 tests and a presentation in a matter of 3 days! It is going to be AWFUL, but when it is over it is over! My first rotation after CHristmas is in Texas City, so despite the awful rumors about the preceptor at least I will be close to home.
Danny's team has their first home game tomorrow night so I will try to remember and update this weekend in between my night shifts...So until then!

So here it goes!

Life is going well. For those of you who don't know I am a PA student currently on clinical rotations. FOr the past 2 weeks or so I have been in Nacogdoches for my general surgery, and that means away from Danny :(. But I have learned a few very insightful things (some of these won't make sense to you)
1. When in doubt cut it out
2. I hate gallbladders.
3. If you are going to have abdominal surgery ask the surgeon to take out your appendix while their in there. It will save you some time in the long run.
4. If you are scrubbing in the surgery and you have a cold...blow your noes before the surgery starts becasue wants you put the mask and the gloves on there is nothing you can do.
5. The most annoying thing about scrubbing in for surgery is getting and itch, especially on your face because you can't scratch it!
ENough of surgery insights...
Danny has started basketball season, so life is officially on hold until mid-February. He is really excited about this years team and so am!! He is the Varsity assisstant so the to-do list for him gets longer by the day. We are very excited that it is almost the "holiday season" meaning a break from school!!! Danny and I are very excited about going to Rochester, NY and Dayton,OH for Christmas this year to be with his family! I CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY IN THE SNOW!!! We will spend a fews days in Rochester, drive to Dayton and then fly back to Houston from there. My family gets to join us up north for Christmas so it will be great!

In other news my family and I have been running 5k's. Earlier this year my dad started walking with me and Danny. It was a brisk walk but not really a work out for Danny or I. My dad and I did the Relay for Life Cancer walk in Galveston together. We walked over 2 hours together late late in the evening. We were moving...who knows how far or fast we walked but after that day walking was not enough for my dad. He started run little by little and is now up to 7 miles a day. He runs 3.5 in the morning and 3.5 in the afternoon. We started running 5ks in July. The Freedom 5k has been a Heidi and Danny tradition but my parents joined us this year. We walked the first mile with my dad and ran the last 2 to complete the first family 5k. We ran a 5k on Labor Day ( and all had pretty good times). Danny finished first, then me, then my dad, followed by my mom. My dad got into this race thing and is training now with a goal of bringing his time down... SO the point of the story. Last weekend we ran the Monster Mash 5k. This time the family order was Danny, DAD, Heidi, and Mom. This was HUGE! FOr most of you that now me I used to be a decent runner:), and my dad kicked my butt! I was SO PROUD of him, who cares that I lost! My dad who hadn't ever run before ran a 22:50 5k and kicked my butt. I ran a 23:30. He is in such awesome shape. He has lost so much weight and is an "athlete in training" now. We are shooting for maybe a 5 mile race or a 10K if I can convince him of that by Thanksgiving. Anyways, I thought you all should now that my dad is awesome. Other highlights from the event, Danny placed 2nd in his age group, my dad placed 3rd in his age group, I placed 1st in my age group, and my mom who cut 6 minutes off her previous time placed second for her age group! I never thought I would ever be able to say my parents ran a 5k with me but it has happened and will keep on happening!
Well, thats enough for now! Hopefully I will keep up with this thing!

And so it begins!

Well, we are starting a blog. Hopefully this will help keep and family and friends posted on life's happenings! I will try to update frequently, but PA school keeps me busy! So until later!
